To: Vicky Odino, David Jordan
From: Gary Prostak
Subject: Minutes of 12/13/01 and 2/07/02 Diversity Committee meetings
December 13, 2001:
Absent: ???
Guests: Roxanne Dalrymple, English

Hopefully Roxanne and Bonnie will become permanent members of the committee.
2) Everyone involved in the 12/10/01 Central/South America event was thanked.
The event was a success; however, Carmen’s personal videotapes were stolen.
The committee expressed its regret and assured that it would try to find the tapes and those
individuals responsible for their disappearance.
There was a discussion on how to better publicize future events because not many students
are on campus between 12:00-12:30 and 4:00-4:30.
Fliers and voicemail alone were deemed to be ineffective.
Suggestions included publicizing events in classes, offering extra credit for students who
attend, and making better use of e-mail, voicemail, fliers, and posters
Diversity Committee by some members of the administration. David Green said that he would be speaking to senior staff regarding top-down support.
Additionally, it was determined that the DC needs new members and more support by current members. It was suggested that each member try to recruit one new member for the February meeting.
Roxanne has arranged for two speakers on Feb 21: authors Michael Dasher & Jenoyne Adams
Bonnie said that she would actively involve the BSU to provide speakers, an art exhibit, and other
events promoting African American culture/history

Absent: D. Green, R. Scuderi
Vicky thanked Bonnie and Robert for all of their efforts during Winter Intercession.
A calendar of events for February has been distributed.
All members of the LAMC community are encouraged to participate in these events.
Many speakers/performers agree to come here free of charge or at greatly reduced fees,
and it would be insulting to them not to have a "full house" for their event.
There are speakers scheduled for 2/12 (author), 2/21(Mr. Henry/Staff Devel),
and 2/25 (authors). Lil suggested opening the Staff Development activity to students
as well. David Jordan had no objection.
An art exhibit is scheduled for 2/26. David Jordan suggested we involve John Cantley
and the art/multi-media faculty and students.
Rudy Garcia is serving Soul Food every Wednesday in February at 11:30 in the cafeteria.
There will be another cooking demo on Feb 27. David Jordan will promote the event with
a flier or e-mail.
