How Electronic Resumes Work
What is an Electronic Resume? -
An electronic resume is the posting of your resume in the form
of a web page document (in html or hypertext markup language -
the language of the web). (here
is some information on hyper text resumes) Also see
Rebecca Smith's very nice page on eresumes.
What is the advantange of an Electronic Resume ?
-
Studies show that many employers have problems in "opening"
or "accessing" resumes which are sent as word attachments.
The reason for such difficulties is the incompatability of computers
and word processing programs. If the employer is not able to "open"
your email attached resume, then studies also reveal that the
employer does not review your resume, or follow up to obtain a
compatible format of resume.
With an "electronic resume", you rarely if ever have
this problem. Since the resume is a web page, or a link, then
when the employer "clicks" on the link, the link then
"opens" providing the electronic resume.
Also, employers are presumably "impressed" with the
prospective candidate's computer literacy when they receive an
electronic resume. One of the important skills mentioned by most
employers is "computer literacy" or "computer skills",
and an "electronic resume" will further demonstrate
a candidate's computer literacy, or computer skills.
What about my privacy? -
Your resume is posted as an individual page, BUT IS NOT linked
to the main webpage at http://resumebank.itgo.com. Thus with over
a billion webpages, it is very difficult, almost impossible for
the public to find your individual resume on the world wide web,
without a link to the public. This does provide a level of privacy.
How do I participate in the resume bank? -
You email your resume to Professor Jordan at abogado@pacbell.net.
You may email it in MS word format, or you may just "cut
and paste" your resume into the "email message box of
your email" and email it to Prof. J., and he will format
your resume for the electronic resume, and send you your web page
link to send along to your employers. Good Luck. Again, email
Prof. J. if you have any questions about this project.
Another simple way to post your resume is to use Yahoo Careers
Resumes -
Yahoo Careers
provides a very nice way to post your online resume for employers.
Once you do set up your Yahoo career resume, email Prof J so he
can add it to the Mission College Paralegal Studies Program Resume
Bank.
Good luck.
Prof J.
