Outline
Proposed Online Training for L. A. Mission College Faculty

Phase 1: Four-week intro course, totally online: a fun, easy "hook" to make faculty aware of the advantages of teaching online

"Intro to Online Teaching"
or
"Online Teaching Made Easy"

The course should consist of four weeks of online instruction with two lessons per week:

Note: The actual content of this course is not as important as the fact that the participant is actually experiencing online instruction. That's the main goal here.

All of the lessons below would be accompanied by "hands-on" exercises, with sample assignments, etc.

Each topic would be just touched on, in order to give the participant the flavor of the experience.

Lesson 1: Posting contributions to the discussion area; general greetings, bio, etc.
Lesson 2: Brief history, growth, and advantages of online instruction.
Lesson 3: Learning theory as applied to online instruction
Lesson 4: Online Tools
Lesson 5: Ideas and resources for using the Internet for teaching.
Lesson 6: Online vs. in-class testing
Lesson 7: Sample courses from around the world.
Lesson 8: The future technology of education: let your imagination soar.

Phase 2: Follow-up courses for faculty who show an interest in online instruction. These courses would be a combination of online and on ground instruction.
